
KaTo is a Hungarian born artist, who escaped from communism in 1987 at age 21 to find a better life in the United States. She arrived in the US with $20.00 in her pocket and spoke very little English. She had started out as a gardener then bartender at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Williamsburg, Virginia. After saving up enough to buy a car and a camera, she drove to Sacramento, California where she still lives. At the time of moving across the country all she possessed fit into a Toyota Celica. She studied photojournalism first at Sacramento City College then at San Francisco State University. Her photographs capture the essence and atmosphere of its subjects as if you are there with her, walking the streets, paths, beaches…
